We at Metanoia believe that it is not simply academics that creates a rich university experience. It is what you learn and how you develop in the time that you are in this space that makes the time at university to invaluable.

Metanoia is host to a wide range of committees that provide a platform for students that are not in positions of leadership to play a pivotal role in the residence. These include being part of Social Impact initiatives to being part of the Disciplinary committee of the residence.

Below, brief descriptions of a few of committees is given, along with the contact details of the House Committee members in charge of them.


Discipline Committee

The Discipline Committee forms the backbone of discipline within the Residence. The Committee works hand-in-hand with the Constitution; and will convene to tackle, discuss and deal with any situation that requires enforcing the Constitution within the residence.

Empowerment Committee

The empowerment portfolio is there to stand up for all people who feel as if they have no voice. We will work tirelessly to ensure that metanoians have adequate representation within the house and the greater campus.

We have multiple sub-committees that cover different demographics. The sub-committees include::

  • Special Needs
  • LGBTQIA+ Community
  • Positive Masculinity
  • Religion and Culture
  • Women Empowerment

We as a community will organise events, critical engagement discussions, and fundraisers to inform and educate those on the challenges facing these communities and to raise money for those charities that would help people in need.

Newcomers Committee

The Newcomers’ Committee is a committee comprising of newcomers who serve to represent the bigger newcomer group and voice their concerns, questions, queries etc. The committee is elected by the Newcomers during O-Week. Along with planning the Newcomers’ dance, the committee plans multiple activities for the newcomer group to feel more at home at Metanoia. The essence, goals and duties of the committee differ from year to year as it depends on the elected group, as well as the HK of Newcomers. With that being said, the HK of the Newcomers committee should always attempt to instill in the committee the necessary skills for other leadership positions in Metanoia.

Huisdans Committee

The Metanoia Huisdans is a prestigious event that takes place each year and serves as a wonderful opportunity for Metanoians to gather together and celebrate each other and the house. The Huisdans Committee is formed to assist the HC’s with the planning of the event. Committee members can be involved in a number of different tasks surrounding the event ranging from décor to ticket sales. Due to the variety of tasks, individuals are able to utilise their unique skills and expertise. This year, Huisdans will be in collaboration with MetaWeek for the most epic build up to the night! We look forward to the enthusiasm of each committee member as we plan yet another magical Huisdans.

Socials Committee

This committee provides you with the opportunity to plan events within Metanoia as well as outside. It improves your skills in finding and planning meaningful ways to engage with people. This fact is emphasised by the current pandemic, when connections with people mean more than ever.

International Students Committee

The International Students Committee is responsible for providing a community for the International Students within Metanoia, through activities and events that foster friendship and recognition of the diverse nationalities within Metanoia. As an international Committee Member, you will be expected to help with the planning and organisation of events planned throughout the year. You will be allocated a floor, of which you will be responsible for communicating upcoming events, any complaints suggestions and ideas from the respective International Students on that floor, as well as creating gees for events planned. Finally, you will be expected to attend meetings with the HK of International Students as well as the other committee members every month, to discuss said events and planning, as well as to reiterate feedback from the international students in Metanoia.

MADComm

The MADComm is the backbone of Vensters during orientation week. They help the HC of Vensters put together the whole show. Responsibilities include costumes, props, choreography, filming and so much more. This committee gives Metanoia Residence a chance to display the wide range of talent within our walls. Therefore, this group has space for different types of people with varying skill sets.

MetaMedia

The Meta media portfolio is all about creating content that gives outsiders a view of Metanoia. We capture memories and help you remember the amazing events of the year.

The Meta Media committee consists of the following roles:

  • Photographers / Videographers
  • Editors
  • Graphic designers (posters and other forms of advertisements, nothing too hectic)
  • Social media correspondents

We as the MetaMedia committee will be at events all throughout the year, working to capture incredible moments.

Safety & Security Committee

The Safety Committee will work to ensure safety throughout the residence. The Safety Committee will be to assist during fire drills, when enforcing the alcohol and Covid policies at Metanoia events, etc. The Committee will work to deal with any safety issues and crisis in the residence, and to ensure proper policies and procedures are in place to best ensure proper reaction to crisis.

Constitution Committee

The Constitution Committee has the responsibility of reviewing the proposed new Constitution. This committee works to drive the process of finalising the new Constitution, and the committee will close once the Constitution has been voted into effect.

Seniors Committee

This committee consists of a senior member from each section within Metanoia. The goal of the committee is to plan events that are beneficial to seniors and would help them in residence as well as in the real world.
