What do I have to do to get residence placement in Metanoia? 

Unfortunately Metanoia has no control over who gets placed in our residence, due to the Residence Placement Policy, and therefore all applications go through the administration of the University of Stellenbosch. You will have applied for residence when applying for your degree.

 

If I was late in my application to residence, who can I contact?

Please contact Mrs Hendriks at administration A of the University of Stellenbosch to assist you. Metanoia will not be able to assist prospective students with accommodation themselves.

 

Must I register myself for my degree before moving into Metanoia?

 

If possible, we ask prospective students to e-register themselves before coming to residence. However if they are unable to for any reason, Metanoia boasts an equipped group of mentors that will help you register for your degree, sort out any administration issues with you and handle the collection of your student card.

 

Does every resident get a single room?

 

Yes. Metanoia boasts 501 single rooms for both female and male residents.

 

What extras may I bring to my room?

 

Fridges, Microwaves, kettles and fans are allowed in rooms.

If I know someone or have a relative in Metanoia will that get me in?

 

No. Metanoia cannot hand pick residents. The system works off of an unbiased waiting list.

 

What is the HK/Huis Komitee/House Committee?

 

The HC aim to serve as the leaders of residence and each specifically handle a number of portfolios to enrich the student community of the residence. The main purpose of the House Committee is to ensure the safety and growth of all residents throughout this University experience.

What is a mentor?

 

The mentor team at Metanoia is an equipped group of individuals whose primary role it is to ease newcomers into life as a Matie. They are assigned to a section and will mentor the residents in that section, show newcomers around campus, help newcomers register for their degree and pick up student cards. They also aim to mentor the students as a well-rounded Matie in the six areas of wellness: Academic, Occupational, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual and Social.

 

How is the residence split between men and ladies?

 

The residence is divided into four floors, each consisting of sections of between 20 and 30 students. Each section is assigned a House Committee member who is in charge of the section. On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor, the sections are all split according to sex. The 5th floor is completely mixed between the sexes.

Will a CV help me get residence placement?

 

No. The new policy has also excluded the opportunity of CV placements into residence.

 

What is MAD??

 

MAD? is the official University welcoming program that runs for 10 days and includes events such as Vensters as well as academic and faculty specific orientation.

 

Where do I find The First Years Booklet and sentevorm?

 

You can download both these documents in our resources section, which can be found using the menu to the left!

 

What furniture is in the room before I arrive?

 

Each room is equipped with a bed, mattress, chair, desk, shelf, mirror and two cupboards.

 

What facilities does Metanoia have?

 

We have 2 study rooms, an eetsaal (cafeteria), a tuck shop deli, a coffee shop, 2 laundry rooms, a gym, a tv room, a computer lab and printing facilities.

 

What is prohibited in rooms?

 

Heaters, Pets, Cigarettes, Electric blankets, candles, halogen lamps or any appliances with an exposed element that could be a fire risk.
